10/12/2012 - 16/12/2012 - Merry Christmas.

So then, this is most likely going to be my last post of the year as I am always running behind and may not get on here until 2013.
My current situation is that I’m finishing my A Levels at school and now being made for the second time to compulsory apply to University on the off chance that I get it. I decided to apply to do Politics obviously. I originally thought that it would be impossible for me to get into university with just ‘D’ Grades which are a total achievement in itself with the school I go to. I found it quite surprising on how little UCAS points you can get into university with. Even on that point I still don’t want to go even though my father is now pushing me.
On another high point, I may be getting my part time job back at the Beauticians as businesses has picked up and that she misses me, nice to know from your boss.
I’m hoping anyway that everyone who reads this has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and that you will still read this next year and hopefully follow my twitter feed @wannabepolitics.

03/12/2012 - 09/12/2012 - Guns

I’m sorry to put a downer on the festive season but I’d like you to give a thought to those families whom will be having Christmas day without their sons/daughters/mothers. I am sadly referring to the Sandy Hook school shooting massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. This was where 20 primary school aged children and 6 adults were killed trying to protect them.
The gunman took the gun from his mother whom he shot before leaving for the school and then shot himself when police were after him.
Being British I could not imagine being in a place where guns are completely legal and that anyone can go and buy one, especially the fact that gun sales rose after this shooting, where is the logic in that?
In regards of the politics in America I am aware it is written in the constitution and that it would be very difficult to amend but can politicians not see, especially Republicans that there is something wrong when something like this happens often.  I think Obama should put his foot down and introduce something, even if it is just to make it harder to get a gun in first place. It’s just such a shame.
‘It’s just too little too late.’

26/11/2012 - 02/12/2012 - Best Parts of 2012

So, a quick look back on 2012, my top stories:
The Queen’s Jubilee and Olympic & Paralympic games, the notion that bought the British public together, which really wasn’t expected in this 21st Century. London has been promoted like nothing else with the Royal family, Lord Coe and not forgetting the legend that is Boris Johnson.
Sticking on the Royal theme, Prince William and his wife Kate are expecting a child! Congratulations! It was released early due to the fact she was admitted to hospital with severe morning sickness. I believe the child is due in June of next year and will be our King or Queen in years to come, and I think it is nice that they are spending Christmas with her family rather than his, you have to love them.
With unforgettable moments who can forget the brilliant Gangnam Style that bought PSY a whole load of new fans and on track to reach a Billion views on YouTube by next week, he reached No1 in over 34 countries.
Last but not least the re-election of Democrat President Barack Obama, the closest presidency race that even had me on the edge of my seat and I’m British!
‘Happy New Year!’

19/11/2012 - 25/11/2012 - BBC

My next few entries will be a reflection on the year, this entry will be about the BBC or British Broadcasting Corporation, the most popular television channel in Britain with worldwide services too.
Just to establish, I am not against the BBC in any way just outlining a few issues they have had over the year, I am actually an avid watcher.
The first problem that comes across in people’s minds is the Jimmy Saville Scandal and Operation Yewtree. Over 40 years before 100’s of people came forward stating that as a child they were abused in some form or another by Jimmy Saville and other big names at the time such as Radio DJ’s and pop stars. The BBC pleaded ignorance to knowing anything about what was going on within their buildings but it was found he was known about in the 70’s but no action was taken.
The second problem that hit is the Newsnight episodes, the fact that they did not show a episode filmed on the abuse of Scandal but showed another episode claiming that a innocent member of the House of Lords was a paedophile. This resulted in the resignation of the head of BBC.

12/11/2012-18/11/2012- PCC Elections, again.

So here we are again, three days after the Police Crime Commissioner Elections whereby people voted for someone for their county or city to manage all the police for up to £100,000 a year. These candidates could have been anyone, aliened to a party or organisation or stand as independent. They were meant to be the next best thing that the country could not live without, or would they?
The government expected people to be leaping out of bed on the cold November morning to go down the polling station to vote as they believed so many people would be clued up and knowing of who they were to vote for. Wrong.
I live in Essex, one of the larger areas that elections were to be held. I live in one of the smaller towns that none of the candidates visited nor posted leaflets and we had no idea who they were. I was disappointed especially living in an official poverty area, we are not short of crime it was up to anyone here to research the candidates and then chose.
I voted independent to stop the politicising of the police, conservatives got through in the end as was expected.

05/11/2012-11/11/2012- My Day at Parliament

Last Tuesday I went somewhere that makes me a very happy girl indeed, the Houses of Parliament in Westminster in Central London. Here is how my day went.
I arrived at around half 9 with members of the sixth form who, like me who are rather exited about politics. Once we got through security we walked through the square where Big Ben went off above us telling us it was 10am. We met our rather eccentric tour guide in Westminster Hall and had the tour around. But I have to admit the best part of it was the Precession of the Speaker.
Now, I’m not being strange here, or any more strange than I usually am but I have a little obsession with the Speaker of the House of Commons, the one and only John Bercow, so much that me and others around the school have founded the JBAS (John Bercow Appreciation Society). If you do not know who he is, google or even better youtube him now. I saw the precession that was specifically for him and then sat in the gallery watching over parliament for an hour. I counted 5-0 to Bercom against the MP’s. Any more fans?

29/10/2012-04/11/2012 - OMLRP

The truth is, I have a secret obsession, I am a great fan of outgoing British people, mostly politicians. Now putting Boris Johnson aside there is a political party who do this in excess, yes I am talking about that party, the Monster Raving Loony Party. Their colours being mustard yellow and pink with their usual abductions of Lords that are done with being sane. At one point I nearly had to become a member of this party just for the t-shirt. I would vote for them but there are none in my constituency or just general area! How is this so! But all is good as they have won many council seats including one in a certain David Cameron’s constituency. Even if you are bored and want a laugh I do suggest you visit the Monster Raving Loony Party Official website (www.omrlp.com) and check out their manifestos of past and present, they are indeed legendary and also take on many ordinary people’s suggestions.
On other news I do thank Parliamentary Press for following my twitter account @wannabepolitics, this has now bought my reader numbers up over 100 which in a few months is not bad at all, thanks guys!

22/09/2012-28/09/2012-Chief Whip

So the Chief Whip of the government Andrew Mitchell has resigned most likely before he is sacked by David Cameron for having a argument with a police officer a good few weeks ago including calling the officer a ‘pleb’ which I thought was just a playground insult. The main issue of this was that the chief whips role is to ‘whip’ the party to go along with what the Prime minister wants. The problem is that he would not be taken seriously when he shows his authority. It was the best decision to resign instead of being sacked by Cameron.
'I'm begging you for mercy...'

15/09/2012-21/09/2012- Scottish Independence

So the Scots have got their referendum on independence scheduled for 2015. This is what the Scottish National Party have wanted since Alex Salmond became head of the Scottish Parliament. They believe that they can survive economically without the rest of Britain let alone make our Union Jack look a bit odd. If you are Scottish I’d like to hear your opinion. On a positive note I think the fact that they are letting 16 and 17 year olds is a good thing as it is their future being independent or not. What do you think the outcome will be?
'Forever is over...'

08/09/2012-14/09/2012-Police Commissioner

The Police Commissioner Elections are coming up on the 5th November and my Polling card arrived this week. This election, in my opinion has not been advertised enough at all, I didn’t even realise there was an election in my area, my impression was that it was just in main cities like Liverpool and Manchester. I don’t even know any of the candidates and you know how into politics I am. My guess is just voting for the person who has bothered to advertise the most, they seem to deserve it, I don’t see the point, hardly any power anyway.
'Take a chance on me...'

01/09/2012-07/09/2012-Royal Family

With the current scandals going around with the British Royal Family such as pictures of Prince Harry and The Duchess of Cambridge the question arises, are other countries respectful towards the British monarchy despite many republicans becoming more popular. There was a thought on whether Britain being so multi-cultural would be supportive of the celebrations but the media was surprised as was I, especially as a directions lesson on the Monarchy lead to some class members non Britain claiming that they found the Queen ‘offensive’ somehow. I think they were just bored and wanted to make the class go quickly.
'I gotta praise you like I should...'

24/09/2012-30/09/2012-Sitcoms

With the upcoming Presidential Elections in America there has been an inquest to whether American Sitcoms such as ‘Modern Family’ have any substantial impact on opinions around the nation. So I’ve been thinking do some of the UK sitcoms have any impact or show the world what living in the UK is really like. ‘Only Fools and Horses’ finished a while ago but it’s predecessor ‘Rock ‘n’ Chips’ shows the person leaving education early and not always legally making ends meet for his family. The ‘Royle Family’ show family’s centred on the benefit system which is now looked down upon.
'We are family...'

17/09/2012-23/09/2012-Consumer Goods

So consumer goods this week, Ipad Mini is be unveiled rather soon, I think that one of the major problems within society is that some people have more than others, the typical rich/poor divide. This is what I think caused the Riots around England last year, hence all the lootings except I do not quite understand the person who thought he was gangster enough to steal a bag of Tesco value Rice and then post a photo on the internet of him with it. The divide is too great and trying to replenish the community sprit isn’t going to work.
'It's not about the money...'

10/09/2012-16/09/2012-Education System

The British Curriculum is meant to give children widespread knowledge of the world as it develops in the modern era. Having been within the education system for coming up 13 years I have found this not up to brief. I find the curriculum myopic and not representative to anything in particular. But this also depends on where about in the United Kingdom you hail from. For example I thoroughly enjoy the subject history but the History GCSE was based around World War 2 as was Religious Education the year previous and the A Level course on the same, representative much?

03/09/2012 - 09/09/2012 - University

This week it’s all about university, many of my friends have already made the leap and are currently eating a packet of noodles as you read. My question is, is university really worth it? I’ve never been inclined to go, I applied last year because it is compulsory at my sixth form and I will have to again this year but what do you get out of it. Yes there is the social life and the wanted independence but the qualification, is it worth it and the fees, outrageous, and why is the government so keen for us to go?

'They will not force us...'

27/08/2012 - 02/09/2012 - Me, myself and I.

In regards to news, not that much happened this week, so I thought you’d like an update on me instead, so I’m going back to sixth form for my third year and studying A2 (second year) Law, Government and Politics which will all be American so howdy partner! And I’m doing AS Travel and Tourism as I live in a big sea side town it couldn’t hurt. Not sure what the plan is the year after just yet but an idea will reveal itself in my mind no doubt. Quick little paragraph instead of my ranting, just what you wanted.

'Could you be a teenagae idol?...'

20/08/2012 - 26/08/2012 - Julian Assange

Hello, right so issue of the week, Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks decided to hide in the ecudor London Embassy to aviod being arrested by British and Americain forces for putting documents on his website that should have been kept secret such as the killing of civilians etc. To be fair I think that even though he has most likely hacked into the system to obtain these documents, they should not be kept such a secret, morally he did right by publishing them for the world to see, especially for those whose family member's deaths they are attempting to cover.

'On my best behaviour...'

13/08/2012 - 19/08/2012: Pussy Riot

Before I start this week’s rant I’m gonna say I do have twitter so follow @WannabePolitics. So, in this week’s news one of the main features is the Russian female punk band Pussy Riot and about three of their members being sentenced for Blasphemy or Treason or something upon them lines for going against the regime, to be fair I didn’t even realise there was one especially in what seems a modern country both within and outside Europe. I’m not a fan of regimes myself mainly as I live within a free society. What do you all think about it?

06/08/2012 - 12/08/2012: Olympics again.

I know, my second post on the Olympics, but it’s all over, best highlight, Super Saturday, three gold medals for Great Britain in 44 minutes. We have some great athletes but some people are still not happy about it, saying we should have come at least second, but the thought of home much funding or lack of it that athletes this side get. Britain has done well, I think anyway and I hope that the Paralympics does well too. I hope it is advertised, televised and that all our athletes are supported better than ever before. That is my hope.
'We are not who you think we are, we are golden, we are golden.'

30/07/2012 - 05/08/2012: Ireland

This week, been different from the rest, I spent five days of it on the Emerald Isle but rather sad I didn’t see any little men with green buckles on their hats. I was a tad worried to be fair, me having the most British or more London accent that can be achieved how I would be looked upon in rural Republic of Ireland especially when I saw sein fein buildings. I don’t know all that much to do with Irish politics, I’d like too, I should do seeing how close they are to me, any Irish reading this now?
'Airplane, Airplane, sorry I'm late.'

23/07/2012 - 29/07/2012: London 2012

Olympics started Friday and the whole of Britain is on the world’s stage. It’s been going two days and patriotism has hit most Britain’s. One thing that people disagree with is the fact that MP’s get free tickets for most events when some tickets can cost over £2000. The 100m final is the one where the majority of people there will be celebrities, politicians and sponsors of the games. On the other hand the opening ceremony was amazing, British history in the space of a few hours, makes me proud to be British. Let’s hope it goes smooth from here.

16/07/2012-22/7/2012 - Holiday time!

Hi, this isn’t really a post related to politics but this is about things to do during the holidays, free things mainly because I don’t have all that much money. I spent a fiver yesterday doing crazy golf and having an ice cream down the seafront. The park is also an option. Why don’t people do more free stuff, it’s better than paid stuff sometimes. The point is I have 6 weeks to do whatever I please and I’m going to enjoy it, I hope you do too. Before you think, I will be doing politics work at some point.

09/07/2012-15/07/2012 - Curriculum

Hi all, sorry for the wait, as you may know, I’ve finished my exams and waiting for the holidays to arrive. I have been at school for 13 years and find it strange how the curriculum is so narrow. I found it amazing how some of the kids below me didn’t know about things such as pivotal points in history just because it is not on the specification, the government tries to address this by having a ‘general studies A Level’ and composary ‘Citizenship’ lessons. I think the curriculums for certain subjects should be looked over, what do you think?

02/07/2012 - 08/07/2012: Reflections.

I’ve been reflecting the past year at school and I’ve changed quite a bit. One thing I’ve noticed is being the older one in the class people look up to me as a natural leader. Throughout the year I have lead loads of projects and broken out of my shy little shell into a ‘in your face’, confrontational little madam in all respects. My teacher warned the boys in my tutor ‘if I know my Hannah, I know she’s fearless’ when they challenged me to a little competition. And before you even think, I won, what else would you expect?
'And I know, that you're somewhere thinking of me.'

25/06/2012 - 01/07/2012 - Modern Society

This week’s post is about people and modern society. I am a 21st Century independent woman, I do what I like when I like and no one can tell me different. Within this people can do what they like and I don’t care but rudeness in my book is not acceptable. One mega social problem I think is the influence of celebrity culture that includes no manners and conflicts being a fashionable thing. If we are to have a generation of citizens that governments wish to have the influence of celebrities need to change. That’s my opinion anyway. What’s yours?

18/06/2012 - 24/06/2012 - Qualifications

This rant is going to be on the proposed change from GCSE’s to O Levels. What are they thinking? What are they actually thinking? In prospect yes I do know from being a student that exam boards set different levels of exams and mark harder than others but that massive jump to O Levels segregating young pupils from another within the capability of each other. And therefore making GCSE’s and other qualifications worthless in comparison, don’t you think our current group of young adults are having enough problems with unemployment and living? Pass this on if you think the same.

11/06/2012-17/06/2012 - New start.

This week I returned back to school, started my American Politics and Criminal Law courses which look really good (I’ve already started making revision notes) I wasn’t planning on going back but as job hunting is not going well I might go part time but I’ve got work going on with my councillor friend next week, which I shall update you on next week. Just to mention I have a twitter account which I shall be tweeting away during the week. #wannabepolitics, follow me please. And in the news I hope Greece recover soon after their next election is over.

04/06/2012-10/06/2012 - Chilling Out

This week nothing happened really, half term was well earned, I will wait until next week to work on my contacts. Looking forward to going back to school, start my new law and politics course if I have a chance to stay on, therefore get a full A Level, all depends on results. I’m also looking forward to seeing Miliband and Cameron at the Leverson Inquiry, should be good to see what they say about politicians relationships with newspapers and the media. I’m aiming for more pageviews so I would be great full if you could tell your friends. Thankyou.

28/05/2012 - 03/06/2012 - Hopeful thoughts

Well, this week I had my last law exam and now have broken up for half term, but more importantly I had a phone call back. There are a number of opportunities available, voluntarily but I would have to officially join the Conservatives in order to do so. I have no problem with that but I’d like to at least have some meetings of members of other parties just to see their side. Alternatively the plan at the moment is to look to work within offices or London while doing something else. Not too sure what yet. Shall keep updated.

21/05/2012 - 27/05/2012 - Bad Impressions

Recently this week, two more exams have come my way, my last politics and first law. Politics lessons are now over. And I officially leave school for good in a month, my leader of sixth form wasn’t too happy, she is not convinced about my career choice. Even though I told her that I’ve had a letter back from the MP’s office telling me to phone them for chat. I phoned but no reply for me yet, if not I shall chase up. I am not going to give up, one thing about me, I always get what I want.
‘There’s always gonna be another mountain, I’m always gonna want to make it move...’

14/05/2012 - 20/05/2012 - Exam time

Exams, the one thing that fazes me, the butterflies in the stomach, the twiddle of the pen and the special flooring to minimise noise. I had my first government and politics exam this week, and it was rather scary stuff. All I have to remember is that I tried my best and whether my best is good enough will be another issue altogether. As you may be able to tell, exams are not my strong point. I love school, I love learning but just can’t seem to pass anything. It gets me down but it won’t let it stop me.
‘Don’t stop believing...’

07/05/2012 - 13/05/2012 - Unfair Advantage

New update, the Conservatives now rule in a minority with my Council. My friend, the candidate still did not get through. There was only around 40% of the population voting in my constituency with around 50% in my ward. My ward is in two halves, and let’s says one is rather disadvantaged (who don’t tend to vote). My candidate friend helps the disadvantaged area where the Labour helps the other half, therefore gaining the votes. It’s a shame, but I shall support him and fingers crossed for next year. Meanwhile, my exams start next week. Not feeling all that confident.
‘This time baby, I’ll be, bulletproof’

30/04/2012 - 06/05/2012 - Election Time

As with much of the country this week is the council elections. Thursday 3rd May, my first ever day of voting as well as many others. Some other cities also have a vote to see if they want an elected mayor like London. To be honest, I think that it would lead to more devolved power to other places, therefore taking more powers away from Westminster which isn’t always a good thing I don’t think. Our Council is currently hung; the Conservative candidate that supports me was beaten by Labour. It was an unfair vote, which I will explain later.
‘Don’t look back in anger, I heard you say...’

23/04/2012 - 29/04/2012 - Hopeful thoughts

So, update of this week, I replied to the letter from the MP which was pretty awesome. I attempted not to sound desperate as for him to help me but you can’t ask for help and not sound desperate. Next is also the mad preparations for my Government and Politics and Law AS levels which is just under a month. I don’t have that great of record for passing exams but I am determined to actually pass this year. It might be handy for the future. I’m doing A2 English Combined, but people arn’t interested in that, just the politics.
‘I’m on the edge, of glory...’

16/04/2012 - 22/04/2012 - Background Info

People have been rather supportive, surprisingly, I half expected them to laugh in my face thinking I wasn’t capable but that’s only been a few. The most encouraging is a Council Candidate who is hoping to be elected this year on my Boroughs Council. He’s been taking me to public meetings and just e-mailing to see what’s up with me. It’s the little things that count but its support all the more. It was him that got the MP to send the letter. Which was a very nice thing indeed for him to do off his own back. I think.
‘Teenage dreams in a teenage circus...’

09/04/2012 - 15/04/2012 - It's a sign!

After getting over my wonderful 18th Party I had a week to relax and gather my thoughts. I got put into A Level Law by accident and somehow loved it, I didn’t pass but decided to retake along with Government and Politics. I didn’t think much of being a politician until I visited the Houses of Parliament then I’ve not been in so much awe in my life. It was then I decided. A letter arrived a day after from the House of Commons, my MP had written to wish me Happy Birthday. Is this another sign? Who may know?

02/04/2012 - 08/04/2012. Welcome to my life.

Hello and welcome, I’m Hannah and as you may have guessed I want to be a politician. First, just make this clear. I’m not rich, I’m not overly smart and I’m not from a great, care free background. I’m just me, and that’s all I have to say on the matter.
On the 7th April I had a birthday, a rather important one as a matter of fact. I turned 18 years of age. This means I can drink, smoke and marry without permission. But best of all I can be an active politician. Let us see how this unfolds...
